P. Hilo Lip

Phal Hilo Lip (Elaine Mishima x Hilo Beauty). I got this from Big Leaf Orchids. I have been looking for a Healthy and variegated Hilo Lip for a while. Peter Lin is just amazing and such a great grower. I also got some care tips from him . I hope I do well with these, I know they are a bit challenging...

I love this color combo like Malibu Madonna.
I also heard that this kind of phals are not easy.
So... what did he say to you regarding culture?

Yep, I have another white lip phal I got from Trader Joe's posted a while back. But this one has mottled foliage from the schilleriana parent and also has a speckled flower unlike malibu madonna. It has even more character than the other white lip phal I have. His advice was that the roots like to stay pretty dry and don't over water and really only water thoroughly when your roots fill the pot. Going from cool to warm weather increase watering as the weather warms. He said only water very lightly (if you grow in moss, which I don't and repotted) then to only mist the top of the moss in cooler months.

So these like drier conditions.
I see some NOID circulating around right now, more like Malibu Madonna, solid dark pink with white lip. large flowers.

It's the schilleriana in the background of why it likes that drier medium. So I would guess anything that has strong schilleriana like hilo lip. I'm not sure if malibu madonna does but I grow all my phals pretry dry so it may work for me.
