During the winter when I'm awake and home the house is kept at about 19C, at night and when no one is home it's set to a min of 15C but probably averages more like 17-18C (depends on the temps outside).

When I tried S/H with Phals they did great in the summer then the roots started dying off in the winter. I lost one before I realised the problem and stuck the others that were potted in S/H on a heat mat.

Yes I kept them a bit drier, but with a reservoir in the bottom they were never dry.

With plain leca and no reservoir they seem to do great all year. I have all my hybrid phals potted that way, although I've kept my few species phals in fine bark.
