Phal with mottled leaves

I have a Phal that has mottled leaves and I saw in a post here somewhere that someone mentioned a certain Phal that had mottled leaves and I was wondering if there were others that had mottled leaves or just the one kind. I think the one they mentioned was a species. I got it in bloom two years ago and has not rebloomed. Flowers were pink.

I believe its Phalaenopsis schilleriana that your thinking of.
Phal.stuartiana (white flower), philippinensis (white), lindenii (pink)and celebensis(white) have mottled leaves as would most (not all) of their hybrids. maybe others but those are the ones that first come to mind.

I've got two primary hybrids that have mottled leaves like the one parent - one is out of lindenyii and one out of celebensis. I also have another primary out of celebensis that does not have the patterned leaves.

Those 5 species are the short list of suspects, along with all of the hybrids ever made with them (230 direct hybrids for Phal schilleriana alone), though not the whole list. With pink flowers, and if it looked pretty much like a typical mass market Phal, it was probably schilleriana or a schilleriana hybrid. If you don't have a picture of the flower that is about all we can say. You should be able to find pictures of those species easily enough.

Thanks all. I had no Idea there could be so many. I don't have a picture of the flower. When I first started in this "hobby" 2 years ago, I didn't take pictures of all I bought. Now I try to capture everything LOL. I just wondered if anyone had any insight into differences in care that might account for no flowers since the original flowers.

As far as culture, I can only suggest that the mottled leaves do at least suggest you have a species or simple hybrid. They can be more finicky about specific conditions to initiate bloom than the typical mass market complex hybrids that have been bred for many generations to grow and bloom like crazy. If you are successful with Phals in general and this is the exception I would start by looking for specific requirements for Phal schilleriana as the best guess and see if there is something there you are missing. I'll try to remember to check some references when I get home tonight.

Good luck with them! I do have two schills and a stuartiana but as they are both seedlings, I haven't worried about blooming them.

I give my schilleriana the same conditions as all of my Phals. It is a spring bloomer and mine is in short spike now.

I do the same with my schilleriana.

Of the two I have, the large one is spiking, as is my Phal. Wiganiae (primary hybrid between schilleriana and stuartiana), as was my stuartiana till I cut off the spike. I also have a mini NoID that definitely has schilleriana in its heritage, and it's flowering now. They all really seem to flower around this time.
