Default Blooming phal equestris hybrid with bad roots. What to do?

Hi folks,

I got a beautiful phal equestris hybrid at a garden centre on Monday. This beauty has been on my wishlist for a long time and in my exitement i forgot to check the roots, which I usually do. At home, I noticed alot of rotting roots. The plant has been kept way too wet. Fortunatly it does have green healthy roots aswell.

Come to think of it, I am wondering whether the leaves look healthy. My other 2 phals have beautiful plump and shiny leaves. Unfortunatly I am unable to make a clear pic of the roots.

The plant has a whopping 6 spikes and I am wondering whether or not that will kill the plant eventually. What do you guys recommend? Should I repot now, or wait till it's finished blooming? Should I cut off a few spikes, or all, if I want the plant to survive? I really want it to live, and am hoping for keiki's.

If anyone knows what the name of this hybrid is, please let me know! :-)

Thanks for the advice

Hmm, 2 photo's in 1 post seems difficult for an iPad. Here's a pic of the leaves.

Thanks for the reply! It has about 30 % healthy roots left I believe.

Is that a few, or a fair amount? If it has more than only a few roots, I'd let it be.

Thank whiterabbit. I think I'll stop worrying about it for now. Plant looks in good shape. I'll repot after it finishes blooming!

Beautiful flowers! I love equestris and it's hybrids. It does seem in good shape and I'd also leave it for now. What you can also do is mist the top of the medium everyday, getting the base of the plant wet seems to help encourage new roots.

If you are interested in the equestris species itself, I could send you a keiki one day. My standard equestris makes plenty of them. For some reason my semi-alba is not too keen on keikis, and it's never produced any...

That is very nice of you Camille, I'd definately be interested in that! Same goes for you ofcourse, if you are interested in a keiki of this plant, I'd happy to send one your way. Given that it'll keiki, ofcourse. Unfortunately I've not yet discovered the name of this hybrid. All I'm sure of is that it's an equestris hybrid. I keep on searching the web :-).
