Must. Stop. Buying. Phals.....
Default Must. Stop. Buying. Phals.....

I can normally pass most supermarket Phals by quite easily...but they had a bumper stock in the other day and some fantastic harlequins and other lovely colours that this wee beauty came home with me! Oops! Actually, not really that wee...it's blooming massive!

I know what you mean. You see phals everywhere and sometimes you see one you just have to take home!

when you run out of room you will stop buyin them but 1st you got to stop killing them off so you can fill the space up ..

I dont buy phals anymore bec I have too many under the bench waiting to bloom see how that works!!!!

Phals in their own way have their own beauty hence the popularity. I always say that I am going to give some of my phals away to make space for other genres of orchids but once I see them in bloom, they end up on my living room table where everybody can see it. It is part of the home.

Everytime I see a beautiful Phal I compare it to how many Catasetums it will buy me if I just be patient and save the money instead. It has worked out really well.

I even have a "don't even think of buying that Phal" change jar . So, how ever much the phal is that I wan't I take that money and put it in the jar. Saved up $53.14 so far!

That yellow and maroon spotted Phal is absolutely gorgeous though. I'd have a hard time passing that up

I think my problem is once I see one I particularly like, it stays with me and eats away until I give in! Don't get me wrong, I'm massively fussy and have passed loads and loads by but recently there seems to have been a massive order at the local supermarket with crazy patterns and colours I don't see normally :-( damn them! Plus I know phals do pretty well in my home and it's things like catts, vandas, dens which I don't really have enough light for (I have a catt and a den-phal) but while they grow ok, I doubt I have the light to make them bloom so might have to donate them to someone!

Just wait until you discover the species phals...bellina, violacea, amabilis, schilleriana....

Lovely Phals!! Especially like the second one, I have a soft spot for harlequins like that. I used to be exactly like you! I would tell myself NO, but it would eat away at me until I finally had to give in and go back to buy it. Then I discovered the wonderful world of species and primary hybrid Phals. Now I'd rather save my money to get some of those, so it makes it easier to pass up on nice supermarket/garden center orchids. So once in a while I still have a hard time resisting...

I can't seem to walk by an outstanding phal. Especially if the next orcid show is along time away. I have my dining room table and coffee table covered in rescues. I moved them from the bedroom when the paphs collection took over. I can't seem to stop! Your definetly not alone. They are beautiful.
