Strange new leaf growth

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? A mutated new leaf formed, all wavy and in a crazy direction. I thought it would get big like the rest, but it didn't. A new more normal looking leaf is growing now. I was just curious.

Gotta say...I've never seen anything like that. Wait till somebody that knows more than me sees this thread...I'm sure they'll have a answer for ya.

that's bizarre looking. one thing I was thinking might have played a role is light, specifically if it's from the window and you haven't turned the plant. but...that wouldn't explain the size and the generally weird shape, just the turning of it away from the others.

I know wavy leaves are often a sign of insufficient water delivery to them, either from underwatering, too little humidity, or insufficient roots, but it seems weird that you would have a normal leaf growing afterwards. did you change anything about your culture in the interval?

wish I had some answers, but maybe someone who knows more about this stuff will chime in.

I'm no expert on phals and I've never seen anything like that happen before and the new leaf seems to be ok. If I were to guess it could be from stress. Did you just recieve the plant from the vendor, has is been moved from two varying micro-climates, have you changed it's feeding regiment?

If you do use fertilizer how much do you use?

It's possible if you had applied a herbicide at the time of new growth, I have seen this also happen when there is a big temp. change.

Thanks for the replies! This site is great. Anyhow, I got the plant about 4-5 months ago, it did not have that leaf at the time. It was in bloom. That new crazy leaf grew out, the blooms faded, I cut the spike back, and now, as you can see, it's already spiking again!! No herbicides that I gave it anyhow, and I turn my plants all the time as I like leaves and spikes to grow in the right directions. I'm not really worried, just curious. Must have been something the vendor did right before I got it.

the vendor may not have been watering enough as that leaf was first developing, but too small to really be seen, causing the effects to show a little later now that it's a decent sized leaf.

but at least your baby is spiking, in spite of the weird leaf!

I have had some leaf stunting and poorly shaped growth before and it was from my inconsistent watering regime. Basically I got he plant too hot and too dry. Only certain ones were effected - maybe it is related to the species in the cross?
