Default Phal cornu-servi in constant bloom

I bought this in August of '06 and it had 2 spikes on it. I was told by the grower that they would produce vegetation not flowers, so I should cut them off. Well, I couldn't see doing that without seeing first what they were and lo and behold it produced flowers on those spikes and 1 other one that it sent up. Since then it has been in almost constant bloom and now has 7-8 viable spikes on it. The flowers are starting to dwindle, but this flower and one other are brand new!

Spectacular photo, Laura! Really great looking flower, too... what a beauty to have in flower for so long. Great growing!

That's a great one, Laura!

Mine doesn't seem to be doing anything at all lately
Guess it's time to do the find-the-happy-place dance

Well, mine is in a very un-phal like place! It is in pretty high light and the leaves show it, but I can't see moving it now...maybe if it ever goes out of bloom, I'll consider a shadier location!
I keep my manii right above it and I was just thinking of moving it and up popped a spike. I should have remembered that it tends to spike in January...
PS. I never suggest that anyone try and keep phals the way that I do, mine are just made to suffer with my conditions and would probably do much better elsewhere...

Hi! Thanks for sharing the photo of your plant's bloom. Being very addicted to phals, I hope you don't mind me letting you know that yours is not Phal. cornu-cervi (note spelling). That said, I'm not quite sure what it is ~ sorry. Below is a link with photos of Phal. cornu-cervi

Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi

I hope you can see the difference. The folks at Big Leaf Orchids might be able to help you identify this if you post there.

In any case, I really like your bloom, I have always been a sucker for those species or near-species phals. Great growing!

I agree with jeanne and do check at Big Leaf. They are excellent about IDing blooms. It also might help them if you can get a close up of the lip.

Thanks Jeanne and Brooke.
The spelling on the title was my fault, as it is listed as cornu-cervi...
I hate when I buy one that is labeled wrong
Thanks for the heads up though and though I've never heard of Big Leaf Orchids, I will certainly give it a try!

Laura - look at the top of this phal section and you will find Big Leaf there. They have a forum and the people hanging there are really good at IDing blooms. They have reidentified two for me - an amabilis that was really an aphrodite and a luddemanniana that is really a pulchra.
