couldnt resist any longer
Well after seeing some of the gorgeous re blooming phals on here I have decided to give them another shot. They and I have usually not gotten along so off I went to my local lowes thinking I would find a noid phal I liked, they actually all had names. Cool!
This one is called: Dtps. Leopard Prince x I-Hsin Golden Sun Bird.
I love the coloring on it. The roots were fat and happy even buried tight as a wedge in moss that was soaking wet. I moved it into a pot w plenty of holes and lava rock. I am letting the spike grow unspiked its so heavy even with the stake it was leaning heavily.

Nice find! I have not seen a phal like that at my Lowes yet.
Also, cool that it came with an ID tag. My phals are all NOID as I often take them in from people who are not interested in growing them once the flowers fade.
I love the coloring in it as well.

I am finding the other day my home depot has tagged phals now 2, but those blooms were to depleted for me to tell which one i wanted. But I do notice something is wrong with the lower lip of the blooms the tips dont seem to be developed properly of course that could be from them being in bloom for a while.

I think I will make a special trip to HD or Lowes to see what I can find.
I am planning to mount for one with the leaves pointing downward to hang on a wall in my office terrarium.

Hi Kindrag, I also got the bug to give phals another try! That was about 2 weeks ago. Great minds think alike. I also went to Lowes, and got a DTPS (maybe thinking that it may have been a bit different than a phal) . I got DTPS Talsisco (sp?) Noble Sogo Pride x Sogo Splendor. I got it because it was the only DTPS, and the roots looke good, not because I liked the flower. The flower is a light yellow with big purple splotches, and the lip is orange and yellow. My camera is not working. Anyway, I cut the spike off right away and repotted into loose sphag, not wood chips in an effort to experiment with a different repotting strategy.

This ones spike is still relatively young so I want tonallow it to grow a bit longer it so pretty. I put a little sphag around the top to give extra moisture bc its so dry here usually.

Wow! Very nice find!
I grew the noID phals for quite a while without trouble and then gave them away when I needed room for something else. When I tried phals again, somehow, I couldn't grow them! They just...faded away. It was a little frustrating. I finally decided to give them one more try and the new ones are all doing quite well. Sometimes, you just have to keep trying.

The orchids I am having the most luck with are dendrobiums, next, catleyas, next, certain oncidiums. That spathoglotis is doing great, the masdie is giving me a lot of new leaves, but I don't know if it will flower, and limping in the back of the pack are the sad sorry bedraggled ghosts of phalenopsis past. All of my orchid triumphs are overhadowed by the fact that I cannot keep a Walmart flower alive!
I dont dare try anything with one stem until I've cracked that code.
