Very nice. I always had only 2 issues with Phals - over water and crown rot because water got stacked in the crown. Once I did learn how properly water them, and make sure there is not standing water in the crown, they do grow just perfect! What helps is either mounted or clear plastic pots, lots of holes too! Well phals and I have a hate hate relationship...they hate staying in their pots no matter what I do and I hate sticking them back in there for the umpteenth time. Lol. So I finally relented and bought one to try and not drop kick it out.of my little green house into the blazing Texas sun...

Okay... so what you do, now that you have it here, is repot it into fresh bark and trim the dead roots.

Use the skewer method with it, until you get the hang of how much water it needs. It's better to keep a phal a little too dry, than a little too wet. So if you're not sure if you should water it, you can wait another day or two, until you are sure.

I don't know why my phals are still alive. Mostly... I leave them alone. I think that must be the trick to them. Stick them in a spot where they grow well, and then move them for watering and return them to their pot in the exact orientation they were in when you removed them from it.

I just got my first cattleya, it's liking me so far. I haven't killed it yet and I've had it for a month. I use the same attitude with it, that I use with my phals. I've stuck it in a spot and I'm leaving it alone except to water when the medium is dry.

I like the low fuss plants, but it is nice to have something to fuss over too, so I fuss over my masdie and my dracula a bit. LOL!

Oh its repotted in lava rock w moss in a holey pot. In a west facing window. It should do well there for a while. This one will more than likely be forgotten. Because I have my catasetums and mormodes to care for.

I do very little to my phals......I water them when the roots are silver coloured. I give them a little organic seaweed enhancer and they r as happy as Larry :-)
Im in the process at the mo of changing all my phals over to being grown in hydroton clay balls. The phals that I have transferred over are growing roots like mad and looking really happy!! As much as I liked the bark It did have a tendency to promote root rot if I was a bit over zealous with the watering routine.
Will let u know how im getting on with the transfer x
