Default New Baby spiking!

Glad to notice the first spike on my Phal. equestris this morning! I only got it a few months ago... its still tiny and freshly repotted (4.5-inch leaf span). I was worried that my chilly apartment would be a terribly place to grow them in the winter, but the cool temps seem to be sparking alot of springtime flower development! It is sometimes around 65 degrees in there on a really warm day! SO... once this plant blooms, shouldn't the buds keep continually growing from the tip of the spike? I have heard that this species is ever-blooming, have ya'll found this to be true? Maybe I'll get a keiki or two out of the deal as well! They'll make great Christmas gifts next year!

Yes, they love cool temps at night. I'm not sure about the buds being ever-blooming. I think it depends on the individual Phal. And I am not familiar with Phal. equestris, but many of my phals. seem to keep producing continuously, usually the more mature plants and the younger ones seem to need a rest inbetween blossoming. That is only my observation and I am fairly new to orchids (couple years). But isn't it exciting????
Many see keikis from Phals, but I have yet to have that happen and I have 17 Phals to date. Still hoping, though. kiki-do

Many of the species phals (equestris included) will continue to bloom from the same spike. I have one I got back in June that is still blooming from the same spike. It will also send out lateral branching spikes from the original spike. Don't cut it. Bellina and violacea are another couple that continue to bloom from the original spike. I think the cool night temps really do nudge them to start spiking. It's very exciting. Congrats & good growing!
