Default Is this a good thing??

Around this time last year I started into the world of orchids. Well I have many Phal.s that haven't bloomed this year for me. So I figured that I should focus on their health before I try to get them to bloom. I have three that actually stayed in some what descent shape but didn't bloom. Is this a good plan?? I mean I see a lot of people posting that they had their Phal.s bloom for them and I feel bad that I couldn't get mine to bloom to share with u all.

Aside from care and culture you need to expose your plant to colder temps at night to induce blooms. 70F in the day and 50F at night....
I checked the weather channel for your zone and you still get 34F to 36F early mornings even if you do not have frost....so outdoors at night is not yet advised....
the longer daylight you give it the longer your spikes ....more days of colder temps exposure might give you larger flowers and two or three spikes....it depends on the hybrid.

I know that much. What I am trying to ask is it a good idea just to focus on the overall health of the plant instead of draining its energy reserves on producing blooms??

Yes. Its a good thing to concentrate on the health and growth of your plant.

shushu45, please don't feel bad! I'm in the same boat. I have three Phals, very healthy, making roots like crazy and getting new leaves, but not a hint of a spike. My Haiku Twinkle "Red Elf" didn't bloom this year either. I'm still hoping to get flowers, but if not, there is always next time. Be patient and keep your chin up!

If they're in fairly good condition, you are not hurting them. Besides, not all Phals. bloom at the same time. There are summer/fall/winter/spring bloomers. With hybrids it depends on the parentage, I think. Someone correct me please, if I'm way off on this.
