Now I can't take credit for these plants because they are my friend's Phals. I took these photos when I was at her house but check out the flowers! I can never get my Phals to bloom like this and I asked her what her secret was and she said she never cuts the spike (if it's still green and firm) and bone meal!

some people say that the blooms on the secondary spikes are not as big nor plentiful but my experience is the total opposite.. the blooms develop faster because the spike has already grown and the flower count and quality is basically the same if not better.

I completely agree. A lot of people say leaving the spike takes away energy from the plant and therefore produces less flowers. The healthier the plant, the more robust the blooms. However, on an ailing Phal, it would make more sense to cut off the spike.

The blooms that you see on my friend's Phals in the photos are mostly secondary spike blooms. As you can tell, there isn't a shortage of blooms

yeah I think giving it as much light as it can take results in bigger and better flowers.

Do you happen to know how old those incredible full blooming plants are? I would assume that they have to be of some greater age to profusely bloom like that. I just do not have any phals of age yet. Maybe someday mine will look like that. Greg.
