@Helzy - that is a beautiful orchid! I think my next one is going to be one of the spotted ones. I love those.
So! Good and bad news. Bad news first. Apparently this poor orchid was developing the dread soft brown spot bacteria thing. When I noticed the spot I let it go for two days thinking perhaps mechanical damage however that was the case. Two days later the spot had grown considerably and the leaf around the spot was bright yellow and this was one several leafs! So I cut the leafs down to the green and after cutting I now have two big healthy green leaves that have been looking good. Knock on wood.
Good news: I have two large and healthy leaves and a very good root system, which the roots surprised me coming from Walmart. So I am thankful for that!
