Phal growing on a tree

it's a little blurry but i'd be happy to get an ID on it...



i just love that kind of climate. and i'm so far from it....

lately we've gone -5C to +3C but
we usually have a few weeks -20C or more after new year's.. but what's worse now is the darkness.
i'm typing this at 3.50 pm and it's way beyond dusk already. less than 8hrs between sunrise/sunset.

i consider myself a warm to intermediate grower which thrives in high humidity and steady daylight hrs...

Sorry, no help with identification... But looks at those roots! It would be wonderful to be able to grow Phals this way, I agree. Alas, it isn't gong to happen this far from the equator...

It looks like there are two or three others on the tree, as well as the fern. So beautiful! Thanks for posting this.

Regardless of whatever hybrid it is, those roots are beautiful.

I know exactly how you feel, FinnBar. Our winters are dreary affairs, and I get excited if we receive more than four to five hours of bright sunlight per day. It really tests your skills--and your plants' resilience--when you grow warmth and light loving orchids in the Northern Hemisphere during this time of year.

I am glad to see photo from Taiwan.
We grow a lot of phalaenopsis on trees in schools and parks because phalaenopsis have been our favorite orchids for many years and additionally, phalaenopsis are easy plants to grow on trees.

I’m not sure why but here in Central Florida you can buy Orchids all year around in the box stores,(nothing fancy of course) and I’ve never seen in anybody’s yard, (and no I don’t lurk in peoples yards I just observe from the street… ) who has one of those massive Oak trees start a colony. You would think it would be kind of a popular landscape idea. I leave my plants outside all year long. I just cover them up with a light blanket when they threaten a possible freeze. Of course if it’s something that’s really special to me I bring it inside overnite.

climate-escapism..part of my orchid attraction for sure.

i had a chance to visit Taiwan a year ago and i still miss the climate, let alone the landscape. here's a photo i took
while hiking. i dreamt of spotting a Haraella odorata in situ..



now i've settled for growing one in my tank..
