Phalaenopsis Water Culture Help
Default Phalaenopsis Water Culture Help

]Hello everyone, I have just registered this forum and would like to get feedback as much as possible.

Well, get down to my concern.
I am certain that in this forum someone has already asked question about water culture but I am not sure when or where in this forum so I would like to ask about water culture.

I am water culturing Phalaenopsis since November 25, 2013 and there has not been good result due to my orchid is growing in natural lights, not in those growers strong lights. The new roots are growing out of trimmed old roots. Roots are white color and short but I see more of them are growing. Phalaenopsis is in glass vase with Schultz Orchid Food.

Is it possible to plant my orchid in Orchid Media at this stage or wait some more months then pot in media.

I am not changing water as much as when I just started water culturing last year.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum NewBie Orchid Gower. I usually repot my Phalaenopsis when the plant is starting to grow new leaves or roots and when it is warmer, like Spring. But it really doesn't matter--Phals are epiphytes and can be repotted anytime. There are several members here who grow their Phals like you do. Perhaps they can chime in with their experience?

You might want to run a search on the subject. Some posters might not frequent the board enough to catch this thread but their posts regarding water culture can still be found.

Welcome to OB!

I grow most of my Phalaenopsis in semi-hydroponcis. If you plan on putting your plant that is in water culture(hydroponics) in more traditional media do not do it until you have new roots coming out of the main stem. The reason for this is that the roots you are growing now have adjusted themselves to being completely submerged. They will fail and die once you put them into a different media. Probably not right away but expect it to happen.

Perhaps, I shall upload my water culturing Phal in this discussion that we can understand what exactly I am talking about.
