Default Phal. Princess Kaiulani 'Miki'

A little premiere bloomer! It's the third time it tried to flower, and finally the spike grew instead of stalling (like the previous times).

It's hard to capture the neon colours on this flower, but I'm calling it my Barbie-doll Phal for a reason.

It's very nice to have my Phals to cheer me up when I'm doing such a spectacular bad job with my Paphs.

It's fragrant, but I don't like the smell. It's not as nice as the fragrance of a violacea (it's a primary hybrid between violacea x amboinensis).

I think this is the same clone as 'Chin Yo' or 'Chin Yeo' (however you're supposed to spell it), but I'm not certain.

Here're some pics:

The entire plant (noooo, it doesn't need to be repotted, it's all in your minds):

You're asking for the impossible! I'll do my best. If you have ever felt the fragrance of a violacea, then you will understand more what I'm talking about. If you haven't, I'll fail even harder at explaining.

The fragrance reminds me of violacea (that wonderful, wonderful scent), but with a faint undercurrent of something slightly acrid/bitter, almost chemical. I noticed the same thing when I had a Jennifer Palermo flowering; the fragrance reminded me of violacea, but with the same faint undercurrent of something chemical. This has made me realize that I need to get a violacea again...

My violacea smells like cinnamon, so I can easy imagine it with a chemical note. I think that must come from the ambo. I've heard they don't smell very nice.
