A while back I lost 2 leaves on one of my big phals but that was normal now I have 2 spikes growing and thats normal but now it looks like its growing another plant out of the side of it on two sides of it or is it just replacing the old leaves I know this might sound crazy but I dont know what its doing thanks.

Agree with seaj, you have two basel keiki. You have a very healthy Phal. Do you know its name? There are some Phal specie that are prone to producing keiki, yours might have such a plant in its ancestry.

I agree that phal is wickedly healthy. It looks like it might be getting a teeny bit too much sun, if I had to nit-pick. But it looks like it is loving it because it is big and strong. Would not want to get into a fight with this Phal. It should be on Jersey Shore or something. Lol

I'm sorry I wish I knew what its name was it was a rescue from a box store and I did not have a white phal at the time and that was how I got it and when it bloomed it blew my mind because I have about 15 to 20 phals and not one bloom with as many or as big as this one blooms, this was a gift from the orchid gods for all my hard work and rescues

Excellent and congratulations cgregory. You should be very pleased with this plant. Thank you for showing off the blooms and the plant.

Very nice plant and I love the regular old white ones. I have an equestris that has 3 basel keikies and is now growing a spike.

I dont know but I've been told that basel kiekies are kind of few and far between now days and if your plant has them then the babies should have them also, but like I say I dont know but I hope thats true.

Some Phalaenopsis are are more likely than others to produce keikis.

Considering the show your Phal is putting on now, imagine when those basal keikis have reached blooming size, and you get even more spikes!
