I don't consider any of my phals to be truly mine until I can get them to rebloom. Well done! Cute little blooms.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Sogo Vivien variegata and the Flora Gigi 'Candy Stripe'? I have a plant that looks like yours and just from doing a search on the internet to try and find a name for it and I came up with the two names and I can't tell any difference.

Gorgeous flowers with lovely colors. I particularly want to see the variegated Phal beside it when it blooms.

There can often be no visible difference between orchids with different genetics, especially with the huge variety of Phals out there, many of which are very complex hybrids. There might be something very subtle difference that most people can't spot, or it might be that sometimes even experts can't really distinguish two hybrids without doing genetic tests.

This is why we say that you can't identify a NoID from pictures of similar ones, or even comparing two 'in-the-flesh'. I have a named orchid and also a NoID which looks to me even under close study to be identical... however I won't use the name for the NoID (though my records indicate it's similar to the other) because I can't know for sure

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I just like names for my plants and its so much easier to use a given name than try to write a long description on my name tags and photo records. I end up wih names like: 'Antique Yellow and Pink Blush w/ Pucker Eyes Standard 2013' (That's the flower on my AV)

Exactly the reason I make up my own names for my NoID's. But keep a marker on the tag to indicate it's my own made up name and it's actually a NoID.

I often use something similar, but not quite the same, as the proper name of one it looks like. So I have one called Vivian because it looks like Sogo Vivian. Another is Kaleidoscope because it looks a bit like Baldans's Kaleidoscope. Another is called Golden Beauty because it looks like Sin Yuan Golden Beauty... however that one is confusing because I also have Sin Yuan Golden Beauty and keep confusing them. Anyway you get the idea.

All of my orchids have some sort of name on the tag, I just also know which are really NoIDs
