First Spike of the Season
My first spike of the season has just started! Think I'll have some lovely blooms for my birthday in late March! What a nice birthday present!
This is a NOID I bought a little less then a year ago, so I'm kind of surprised that its spiking already, especially since I rotted a good majority of the roots - however it has a lot of nice roots coming along in the pot and you can see a few new ones that have started too. I'll be getting my first order of KelpMax from Ray today, so only good things ahead for my poor abused phals!
Thanks for the support, Orchid Board! Wouldn't be getting spikes without you!

I know isn't it exiting. I just found another one a few days ago starting. I think I only have 3 now that haven't spiked.
And one of them I am trying to figure out what it is doing. It is have a strange issue.

It is exciting! This time last year I had 3, now I'm upwards of 20! Trying to stop there, because I have no more window space!

Oh my! We're at the same place then
Funny thing is right after I posted that I stopped by Wegman's (fancy grocery store) and bought a mini phal. I couldn't resist! Now to hide it among the others......

I think one of my minis has just spiked too, but I'm not 100% sure yet, so I am reserving judgement until I see a little more growth on it. LOL!
I totally get how an orchid collection can grow like that. I was just going to have ONE orchid, so that I could learn how to take care of my daughter's plants after she transfers to a 4 year university... and from that one orchid, I ended up with 18... or is it 19? I'm not sure anymore. LOL!

Amazing how fast collections grow!
I joined the board about a year ago because I was desperate to see my phals rebloom. Out of those original three, one is pretty much at deaths door with no hope. I just can't bring myself to throw it out. One has rebloomed and is currently producing a keiki!! And the last one has been sitting there like a bump on a log and is FINALLY growing a new root - this one is the orchid I've had for the longest and the one I'm most desperate to see rebloom. I bought it right after we got married almost 5 years ago. I can't remember what the flowers look like anymore.
I've just purchased some of Ray's KelpMax, and I'm very excited to use it on my plants. I'm hoping it makes the difference for my very stubborn little guy.
