I need a KNOWN (ID'd) Large White Phalaenopsis
I have a phal that's a gorgeous deep red color but is small and kind of misshapen. I'd like to try to cross it with a large white phal, but not a NOID one from the grocery store, something from a reputable dealer.
Any ideas on where to get one in bloom now? I've looked around and actually couldn't find much, I guess those plain ones are left to become NOIDs in the stores!

You could harvest the pollen and store it for later use when you find something like Sogo Yukidan in bloom. I don't do breeding so someone else will have to tell you how to store the pollen and how long it will last.

I ended up ordering this, it's supposed to be good:
Phalaenopsis White Dream 'V3' AM/AOS
In bud with two spikes. I did grow an orchid seed pod before, but it was years and years ago, I don't think there were such things as flasking services back then so nothing came of it. If the pollen can last, this might be an interesting experiment.

Why would you want to do this? If the flower is mis-shapen and a noid, the new plants if you get any would still bo noids.

He didn't say it was a NOID, he said he didn't want to cross it with a NOID. As for why I would guess to improve form but keep some of the color.

The one I want to breed is not a NOID. And It's not so misshapen as it small and doesn't really open properly. It is the same basic shape as a large white phal. It has a beautiful dark red color which is why I'd like to breed it.

Kudos to you for getting in on the breeding fun! Welcome to the team! Definitely go ahead and make the cross, the more crosses you make the more you can learn. But know that the defect of not opening properly will probably show up in some of the progeny. Also the color you have in the pollen parent (small red?) will most likely end up getting washed out by the large white. Good luck with your adventures!

Try Join Grace. It is the largest white phal ever I think.
Of so many common white NOIDs available all season long at a farmer's market here, I once bought one with a hidden name tag stuck deep in the moss. It said Join Grace. Largest one I've ever seen with exceptional form and texture!!! The plant itself wasn't big, which is a great bonus for me.

Hausermann's in the Chicago area has huge white Phals year round. I visit there often and they are the biggest I've ever seen. I did finally buy a White Dream with 5 inch flowers, the blooms lasted for months.
