nice stem and buds, As far as your question about you damaging the stem..certainly looks like you did but I wouldn't worry about it at all and yes the clips are better! (i think less chance of damaging) but as Dorothy says you still have to be careful !
looking forward to seeing pictures of the blooms....

I also use the clips on all of my larger orchids and the secret is to apply them when the spike is really tender, not when it is hard. The damage you see is not worth worrying about in my opinion. It won't hurt the plant or spike just....

Yeah Baby!
Way to go, Papa Zach!
I can't wait to see it totally open!
(but I guess I have to )

From what I can see - It looks very similar to a Dtps. Newberry Parfait 'Picotee' -

Dorothy,

I think that you might be onto something... ...I have been wondering what to call this...but I think that this might be a safe bet!!

The colors seem more vivid this time around than the last time...I can attest to better feeding and care from me.

Other than that I am trying to stay warm here in Florida...

Really nice! Those blooms are more than worth the very long wait. Of course, I have no patience when it comes to watching spikes grow, so I would have gone crazy long before the blooms opened!

As you all can see below all is well with the bloomin chid. I have noticed that the first bloom is the biggest and the subsequent blooms are a little smaller, this is more noticeable with the third bud that has just opened this week. Is that normal?

Once the flowers open, am I correct in the assumption that the flowers them selves will not get any bigger? This is the first time that I have had this many flowers on this orchid. It is still a very pretty bloom and I am satisfied with the work that I have put into this orchid

Thanks In advance!!
