Variegated Phalaenopsis at Trader Joe's
Found this beauty at a Trader Joe's next to my school today! I always take a quick look at their orchids and most don't really appeal to me but then I spotted a variegated one. I have never seen TJ carry a variegated orchid before so I HAD to get it. And for only 8.99? Can you really walk away from that?
Any IDs on this beautiful miniature phal? I think it might be Dtps Sogo Vivien 'Golden Vivien'
Although it's a NOID hybrid, so who knows?
Either way, I'm quite happy. I don't care much for the flowers, but the leaves are so pretty.

Great find, good shopping, Jeremiah. I wish we had a Trader Joe's. I have that plant with those flowers and it is a Dtps Sogo Vivien. Last night Seed Engei auctioned off a Daifuki for over $30.

I'd say almost definitely Sogo Vivien, but who knows on the cultivar. These are multiflorals, and, if they are like the non-variegated varieties, can put out branching spikes with dozens of simultaneous blooms when the get a little bigger. It seems there are a lot of these variegated SV's around as of a few years ago, but other than those and some amabilis I don't know of other variegated Phal hybrids or species (there may be one other, but I can't think of it now).
Mine from Big Leaf was in bloom when I got it a year and a half ago, but I haven't re-spiked it since. I've been keeping it too warm to spike probably. I repotted it again just a couple days ago and once it settles in again I may put it in a cool bright spot to try to get a spike.
Here's a pic of a non-variegated SV, one of the first Phals I killed a couple years back. Notice how chock full of buds it was.

Thanks y'all! The pic doesn't show it well but there's actually a branching spike on the spike on the left. It's quite impressive.

Normally I wouldn't venture a guess but I'm 100% sure this one is Dtps. Sogo Vivien 'Variegated'
