It was getting a little desolate flower-wise up in here, but in the past few weeks I've been seeing more and more spikes starting up. Should be looking good by early winter.

EDIT: Although I should add, the Hiroshima Tetratis in my avatar photo has been in almost continual bloom, except for a couple weeks last December, since June 2012. I acquired it in the spring of 2012 from Big Leaf with one old spike, which rebloomed in short order. It later put out a new spike, which is still blooming and budding. The original spike just dropped its last flower a couple weeks ago and has a well-developed keiki at its tip. It lives in a bright spot in my warm terrarium.

Mine is speciosa C#1 (or perhaps tetraspis C#1) x equestris, but Big Leaf currently has the reverse cross of this available.

You can add Mini Mark to my list of spikers. So that puts me at 5 in spike. I'm also including Mituo Sun King though I think that one is stalled. I also have 3 currently blooming, bellina, equestris var aurea, and pulchra.

I have a couple where it looks like it may be a spike but it's too soon to tell.

All mine that are spiking are NOID's but I do know all the colors so no wondering here. All are Phal's exept one Onc twinkle. The only one so far that's not a NOID.

A dark magenta that I am very surprised about because when I re-potted it last March it had only one root left. It is doing well and has put out more roots but I didn't think it would bloom. It looks like the spike is not going to be to big however so probably not to many buds. But oh well it's a spike.

Two white ones with magenta spots on them one having more spotting then the other one and it has 2 spikes. The less spotted one is going to bloom first and is about a foot long all others just getting started. I believe you call them harlequin at least the one with more spotting. Will see when it blooms as I have never gotten this one to re-bloom for me.

My one that just got done blooming about a month and a half ago, it is white with a magenta center. Goodness I think I must like that color. It has 2 spikes.

2 of my mini's my avatar one has a spike starting from the bottom and it is growing another from the old spike as it never did die so I didn't cut it off. The other one has never stopped blooming I had gotten it later than the other 2 and it has grown more from the top and it had a spike starting from the base but seems to have stopped. Not sure what to do about it I just keep hoping it will take off again.

I can hardly wait and I will be posting pictures as I am so very happy about them.

the mix on top of the moss is Dyna-Rok. I don't know if it does much for the phals but it does look nice when used as a top dressing. its essentially freshwater dolomitic limestone. hard to find in the medium grade. everyone seems to be out of it. I use a lot of it for all the orchids. The stuff wont rot roots as it doesn't stay wet. only moist. it collects algae though, doesn't bother me but I have heard it does this bec of high light and high nitrogen. I would rather grow moss...Ill get that worked out..maybe

and why aren't some spiking? my guess at this is your temps didn't drop low enough or long eough. commercial growers keep phals in the grocery store shelves and home depot all year long bec when they are mature they drop the temps in the greenhouse between 55 and 65 for 3 to 4 weeks. that initiates the spiking routine and keeps us in flowers. If its cool enough outside set them in a bright comfy location, with no direct sun. leave them alone in the cool for 2 -3-4 weeks and you will spike. you can bring them back in then if you like.

I think it's too cold here. Our highs are already in the low 40s, it's getting down to freezing at night here and we've already had a couple of snows.

I love doing this! I grabbed one from Lowe's clearence rack this summer that wasn't in too bad of a shape. Got it home trimmed up the roots, left the spikes and threw it in some new bark. It didn't do anything all summer than about a month and a half ago it exploded with new leaf grow and I also have a side spike starting. Not bad for five bucks!
