My new spikes

I am beyond exited I just got done watering all my orchids... oops they were very dry, been a bit busy....and I have just found I have 4 phals I didn't know were spiking. I have one that has been growing for a while and is getting long and one that I thought was putting up a spike and I find it has two.

Then my one that just got done blooming and I figured would have to rest a bit it has 2 coming out. Also another that finished about 2 months ago is starting. My mini avatar one is spiking and it has just finished about a month and a half ago. So all total I have 6 phals spiking...........yippy I can hardly wait and yes indeed I will be posting pictures. My oncidium Twinkle is also going to bloom.

I am so jealous. I am giving 2 of my phals trash threats b/c I have had them almost 2 years and they haven't bloomed. I bought the phals for $2 out of flower when I was trying to get the hang of orchids, so I don't even know what the flowers look like.
My other orchids are so well behaved, but my phals are not!

I can't decide. the one that is about 10 inches I have done nothing with I do have these twisted stakes I got from a florist friend that I usually use and it makes them go a little out not just straight like a stick would. They look more natural.

But most of them are just starting so I have some time. I'm waiting for my dark red one to put out a spike, it is the first one I rotted the crown on and I think it looks big and doing well enough it should bloom. But as of yet nothing it is a keiki and I have never gotten the keiki to bloom yet.

These are all blooming for the first time for me. I was bad and didn't re-pot them till last March and I almost lost some of them because I was to afraid to do it. Well there are 3 that are new to me as well. One of the ones that is putting out 2 spikes was on sale after Mothers day at Wal Mart. I can't believe it is spiking again. I was thinking that it maybe needed to be re-potted but not sure I will do it now.

Have you re-potted yours after you bought them?

Sounds like your doing some thing right, they are happy and giving you blooms to show it

I repotted both of mine in late september and two weeks later both had spikes. So maybe it will set them back a little but we will see. If they have fewer or smaller blooms then I will assume it was because they had to divert energy to growing more roots. Either way, I'll take what I can get!

Yep I feel the same, I know one of them will probably not have allot of blooms because it didn't have much left for roots. I'm just surprised and pleased it is spiking at all.

Yes they seem to be much happier after I re-potted them and am taking better care of them, however I have let a couple of them get leaf burn......bad me.
