Rescued sickly phals today

Hiya ,
I went to my local garden centre this morning for a few bits and pieces. Obviously I had to go take a look at the orchid section and discovered they were selling off poorly looking phals at £1.00 !!!
I took pity on 2 small phals. I have since coming home, taken the spikes off, de-potted, removed all the rotten roots, cleaned the leaves, re-potted back into same pot with fresh bark.

Phal number 1 looks a bit dicey very few roots left. a lot of them were rotten and mushy But if it does recover the flowers will be lovely It had a label on the pot with referene to "Orange Blossom" is that its name??

2nd Phal looks a bit more hopeful, had better roots. The flowers were really teeny tiny.

I rescued a sickly phal from the hardware store yesterday! It's a Phal. Sogo Yukidian. I got a dirty look from hubby for it, even when I told him I got it super cheap because I showed the cashier the damage to the plant. I'd better not bring home any more orchids for a while… LOL!

Yours are LOVELY! I love the orange blossom. Is it more pink toward the center? It seems like it in the photo. I'll bet that bloom is really beautiful in full sunlight!

they look good to me.. the flowers are just spent but other than that, it's looks healthy!

Looking good, great buy for £1.

Orange Blossom isn't a registered name. It could just be a reference the nursery put on it for their own purposes of knowing which one it is.

Its amazing how reasonably healthy the leaves looked on the orange blossom one but it had next to no roots. They were all rotten and mushy. All the bark was going mouldy - see pic below (that was before i repotted!):

- a serious case of over watering by the garden centre!! Its not very stable in the pot as it doesn''t have many roots to anchor with. Im keeping my fingers crossed that it will start to produce new roots.

Anyhow, its now cleaned and in new bark. Its only got 3 roots - they didnt look in the best condition.
Well it has 50/50 chance so we shall see..............

If it's really that bad on the roots it might be worth removing the spike. I know it's heartbreaking when they look good, but it could help the plant save energy for recovery.

As you suggested I have already removed the spike (i did on both of them) to give them a chance to recover.

You people find much better deals than I seem to. The best deal I have found is a paph for $7.00 after mothers day.

Well I guess I did have a friend give me several, some that were pretty nice ones and I was stupid and killed most of them. I'd like to kick myself.
