Summered out Phal's
Brought in my Phal's that where outside for the summer. Now they are in a south facing window until next summer. Most are in good shape a lot are rescue's from Loew's and other stores. I live in Long Island NY zone 7.

Be careful of the southern exposure in winter - it may be too much light for Phals - tho I see you have blinds, so with adjusting them, it might be ok.

Blinds
Hey thanks for the light tip. That's exactly what I do in the winter is adjust the blinds to the correct amount that I think they need. I could put them in a westerly facing window but the temp. drops in that room to about 60 at night from the 70 degree of day time I don,t know if that would shock them to much. Also the west window only gets sunlight only for a couple of hours a day.

Why bring them in so early? If you'd like to leave them out longer...it's still warm enough...they'd be fine.

Really, I figured it was gonna get to cold at night and the wind was blowing them over on the rack I had them on. I'm on Long Island NY and it got chilling the other morning, low 60's.

Phals will be perfectly fine down to 60 degrees. I've left mine outside into the 50's...although anything below 60 is not ideal for a phal. When your night temps start dropping below that 60 mark...then it's time to bring them inside. |

^ Yes, I agree with Katrina, that's exactly what I do, bring most my phals in around 60° F, and some others, at 50° F. The drop in temp is what signals them to spike later on... I believe it's a 10° F difference in temps from night to day... So, a 70° F day, dropping to a 60° F night, would be just right for that... Although, that west facing window might be too bright for them (noon to early-mid afternoon sun is the hottest)... southern (or eastern) facing windows are good  |
