Variegated Phalaenopsis NOID
I was on eBay not doing much but look for bargains. I did a search and found this Phalaenopsis. The picture of the plant showed only the plant. But when this plant arrived, it was in bud. It arrived on June 26, 2013, the first bud opened last Friday 6/28, here is a picture a week later. Anyone have any idea what this would be named?

Usually it's impossible to positively ID a hybrid but that one is without question a Sogo Vivian 'Variegated'  I have one, it's great

Thanks for the information escualida! I've been looking around the web and came to the same conclusion. It will be a NOID but in my mind it is a Sogo Vivien. Do you know of any other variegated phals? I have a Schilleriana and it has gray speckled greenish red leaves. |

Yep, Sogo Vivien is almost like the exception that proves the rule about never, ever trying to put a correct name to a NOID. There's just so many of them out there that odds are good that if it looks like a Sogo Vivien, it probably is. A non-variegated Sogo Vivien was one of the first orchids I ever killed and I currently have a nice variegated one that's been adding luscious new leaves and hopefully will re-spike this fall.
I don't know of a lot of variegated Phals, beyond the speckled leaf species, but I have seen variegated Phal amabilis for sale.
The speckled leaf ones that immediately come to mind are stuartiana, schilleriana, philippinensis and lindenii, all originating in the Phillipines.
