So I got myself one of these too.

I know it is dyed, but I've always wanted one and now I have it.

The blue one ( under the produce name, Blue Diamond) seems more common and I always wanted Purple one.
There were a whole bunch of these at HD the other day and I picked one. I have to admit I was actually more attracted to the candy stripe pot than the actual plant.
I really wanted the blue pot (but not the plant) too and I got one of that too. Don't aske me how.

My apartment is mostly white everywhere, so having this purple flowers against white looks really nice and refreshing now that the weather is getting warmer too.

It says patent process initiated, but anyone out there know how to dye the flowers? or anyone tried with food coloring??

Dunno about the dyeing, but when this one rolls out its next blooms in white, you could go get some real lavender or purple phals- fragrant ones, even!

Or you could take a little sidestep into Doritaenopsis...

If you search toward the bottom of the spike you should find the hole where the dye is injected into it.

Very unusual. Can't say I like it, but one's man's meat is another man's poison.

But this one is big. and totally different flower shape too. I like the overall effect it brings into the home.

By the way, in the first picture, is it Kenneth Schubert??
I've been wanting to get it for a while now. small and cute and even fragrant.

All the rest, they are not my cup of tea. The short spike above large droopy leaves...and the flower counts are usually low too.

I think Kenneth Schubert is the one in the 3rd pic? The 1st is Purple Martin.

Yeah, I've never seen any large fragrant or blue-purple phals, just the unscented magenta ones. It makes me a sad panda.

For big purple smelly things, I've been looking into vandaceous stuff lately.

Patented Processed Purple Plants. I just think of artificial crab meat when I see these. Some showed up at an orchid meeting long ago. Caused quite a conversation. The crab meat that is

I've read that it's some sort of silver compound to give the blue colour.

Oh, ok. Purple Martin has Kenneth Schubert as one of its parent and KS looks pretty much the same or in my opinion, a little better form and color.

The rest of the pics do not have Kenneth Schubert.

Unfortunately, there are no large flowered blue purple phal as of today. It would sell really well though!
I don't think any of large flowering phal hybrids are scented.
It would be so nice if such thing existed though!

You would think it would have copper in it for blue but silver? I hope there is no mercury attached to silver.

I am really tempted to try food coloring blue and see how that would turn out.

I just read this thread last night and thought of it when I opened my anniversary present from hubby today! Purple phals! They are NOT dyed and they are just stunning. I'm on my phone at work now so I'll take better pictures tonight, but he is just lovely!
