NOID mini purple (?) phal back in bloom!
Default NOID mini purple (?) phal back in bloom!

This is one of the mini phals I got from TJ last November. It since grew one nice leaf and a few roots over the winter. then it grew another spike, which is now blooming!
10 little buds and 2 more on the little branching spike.

It is interesting that two of the flowers so far opened up peloric. (these pictures are a few days old) not my favorite flower shape, but oh, well...
Is this common though???

Also, is color break associated with peloric flowers?
The pictures don't really show well, but the flowers do show some color break on the edge of the petals.

I just love the color on this plant. I tried taking pictures with both less and more light. The actual color is somewhere in between these two shades.

Enjoy!

Looks pretty. Were the previous flowers peloric? Some can vary and flower this way on some flowers, or on one spike, but not stay that way. Others are always that way.

I'm not sure about the flower break but part of the peloric is that it starts to mimic the lip and sometimes this can go as far as getting three lips, or the petals having the same colouring as the lip to a greater or lesser extent. So peloric can alter the colours of the petals.

It looks like an unstable peloric mutation. It will be interesting to see how the rest of this spike blooms out. I don't see any color break but it's hard to tell in the pictures.

I'm attaching a pic that shows this same plant in bloom in December. The flower count is about the same (which always makes me feel good

The small one on the forefront is this mini phal.
All the flowers were "normal" last time.

Terri- Yeah, the color break is not easy to see in my pictures. I will keep trying to get better pictures though. The color break is mostly on the edge of the petal. darker area with sawtooth like edge.

So far, two peloric flowers on the main stem. I'm interested to see how many more will open peloric. and how the future bloom will be like. I got a crazy one here lol

Default Almost All flowers open!

Now almost all 10 flowers on the main spike and 2 on the side spike are open.

Half of the 10 flowers are peloric and the other 2 are both normal.

You can see the color break in these pictures.
I think color break is a deformaty that comes with the shape deformaty of being peloric as I see that in other peloric phals as well.

Thank you for sharing pictures of your peloric phal. I also looked up the phrase and found more pictures of other plants showing this mutation. I have three phals that have this mutation. Phals are spectacular in their standard form, but this condition adds to their appeal.
