Default Some novelty phals

I don't know if these are considered novelties or not but I don't consider them standard phals because of their different groth habit and thick, waxy petals. Anyway, Quay was asking me about my Phal Ember (Lou, I still plan on harvesting pollen for you!). And I wanted to show and tell. So here it is along with a Chrisna.

It has this brilliant coloration on the leaves if grown on the upper limit of light.

Not sure of he capacity of this pot but its maybe two gallons or so... It's big. Such a pain to water if I have to carry, which is most of the time!

So the color isn't right. It's less purple and more pink in real life and looks so much better. When time permits ill get a back lit shot so you can see the hundred of dots on the petals.

This hybrid smells sweet like honeysuckle, especially at just before mid day.

Shot of the roots I've gotten before on this plant in sh. I rarely ever have dead roots on this thing. It's a strong but slow grower.

My Chrisna. One of my favorites but was badly damaged in the mite attack this past winter. She's better now but that was rough.

Wow! I've just started transferring my few phals to S/H. Now I see what it should look like when the plants are happy! Beautiful!

Ryan, when you say mite, is it different than spider mites? The ones you had on your phal, are they visible? I can see spider mites with naked eyes, but anything smaller would be difficult to see without help.

Also, what kind of damage do they leave on the leaves?

I'm curious to know because some of the phals I have are showing some funky stuff on their leaves that I've never seen before.

The white one is very nice, by the way!

Thank you all for the nice compliments!

Neil, the mites may have been spider variety but I don't think they were. I could not see them. I treated every plant with tetrasan and did it twice and they were done.

The damage varied. Mostly on the spines of the leaves but if it got bad it'd be on the rest of the leaf too. It leaves pits on the surface of the leaf as if that small area had been drained. The damage is obvious and lasting until new healthy leaves replace the damaged ones. The health of the plant rapidly decreases and some of my phals began dropping leaves.

Some were untouched by the mites for no apparent reason, particularly my species, including my gigantea, Stuart, and my Schill. However my coronas, which I believe brought in the mites and are not species, were the most affected.

Much of the damage appeared as red or white blotchy indentations.
