new to phals. couple questions.
So I paid my membership fee today for the napa valley orchid society and I got a free orchid with my membership, its a phal. Labeled as little gem stripes x doudi golden princess. I got a pretty good care sheet for phals when I got it I was just wondering if the light I'm giving it will be to bright. I have it sitting with my other orchids by my west facing window but its sitting furthest away on my desk probably about three feet maybe a little less. I'm wondering if I should put it on a shelf in my room off to the side of the window. Because it says they don't like a lot of light.

I'll get a few pics up in a minute. And I forgot to ask if anyone else knew a shorter name for this orchid and if it is one that you cut the spike after blooming or not.

Got a couple pictures of it here. Any idea why the leaf on the left side is bent like that?

Tim, Cute blooms!
Little Gem Stripes x Dou-dii Golden Princess is registered with RHS as Phal Fangmei Sweet in 2009.
Your plant should be fine where you have it, it may even need to be just a tad closer. Depends on if there are trees and such outside your window and just how much sun it's getting.
The leaf may be curved that way do to the way it was growing, such as being pushed up close to another plant. Doesn't look like anything to worry about.

okay then, will it straighten out if given room to do so? also, the have blinds that filter the light pretty well and in the afternoon there's a big tree at the house across the driveway that filters the light so it isn't super bright.

I agree with Judi about what happened to the leaf. It probably won't straighten out any more. I want to add that sometimes if the plant is too dry when a new leaf is growing, it will grow wavy too. In this case though, I think Judi is right.

Ohhhh, haha yeah. I got bored one time. That's the only one I still have on my bed frame. And that's too bad about the wrinkly leaf. But oh well it's still a pretty plant.
