Rebloom. Color Difference
Default Rebloom. Color Difference

Have you ever experienced/observed the color difference in the original and reblooming Phals?

I bought one last year and what attracted me was a pattern of purple veins on the petals that made me think of calligraphy art... This year they are less pronounced and while blooms are still pretty, this is certainly dissapointing.
This NOID Phal has been one among easiest to grow - never sulked, grew vigorously from day one and re-bloomed within 6 months. So.. I'm not sure if it's a temporary thing or....?

My other NOID, Leopard Prince, rebloomed with the same pattern of bright dots identical to what it looked like last year. No complaints there.

Any thoughts, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ordphein is correct.

This is Phrag. Don Wimber blooming in the heat of the summer.

This is the same plant blooming in the cooler temps of fall.

Sometimes it works the other way. Phal. speciosa C#1 only shows its random red splotches in warm to hot temps. When it blooms in cooler weather it blooms white with no markings. So it just depends on the plant and the species involved in its genetic make up.

It can be very surprising what a difference in culture (light, temperature, humidity, nutrition) over the course of a year or even over the few months at the time of blooming can make to the coloring and size of various orchids. If you do not have the ability to alter these things in your growing area, you may just have to accept the blooms that you get. Some plants are more resistant to changes than others.
