Depends on which cat you get. Mine doesn't care about the orchids one bit, while I've read about others that decimate collections with a flick of a claw.

You're getting a partner in crime for your little guinea pig?

Maybe maybe, I'm thinking about it. But the trouble is the guinea pig has a large uncovered pen attached to his cage (so he has more space). I don't want to exile him from the living room (where I am most of the time) so that the cat can have it.

Some broken blooms, the newest leaf got torn off, and the entire top of the crown is very wobbly.

But it's a small plant, it never has more than 3 leaves at once.
WOW! I don't know to cry or laugh... So sorry for the disaster - it's such a gorgeous plant! But I just never heard of the guinea pigs knocking off the beauties in this manner!

Again, I appologize if I'm touching the sore spot.

Re the cat. I've found so far mine are fine with out of flower phals. But I haven't tested them on much else! (They will eat maxillarias...). I've also not trusted them with in-spike phals. With spikes though, I think maybe marking behavior might be more danger than that they'd eat them. Cats tend to rub and lightly bite sticks to scent mark them. If you think of it like a signpost: they stick up where they are nice and visible (or smellable!). So maybe spikes will be protected if you make a better 'signpost' (or several) available. Maybe put a ring of tall sticks around the pot!

Beautiful plant and great photos, Camille! Plants aside, are you sure getting a cat (predator) is a good idea when you already have a guinea pig (prey)?
