Almost dead phal... what should I do? Male
Default Almost dead phal... what should I do?

I recently acquired a phal from my aunt. It has six leaves. However, it wasn't watered much (or at all) for a few months. The leaves are droopy, and a few wrinkly, and they are starting to yellow at the edges. I took it out of the pot, and all of the roots were brown and dry, except for maybe 6-8 little firm stubs. I repotted in sphag in a smaller pot and placed about 5-6 feet from a south window. Should I do something else now? Any other tips on saving phals?

Well, all you can do is wait at this point.
The fact that the issue here is the dehydration, not rot, it could bounce back although it will take quite some time.

Extra humidity and warmth always helps, or hasten the recovery.
Make sure the moss do not stay too wet, but never dry out either! just moist at all times.
Plus, I would trim off the leaves, maybe the most sever ones or trim off half of all the leaves to prevent too much water loss. With six leaves and not much roots left, the plant maybe losing more water than it takes in.

You could leave the leaves as they are. The plant might lose some leaves to balance the water gain and loss within itself.

One more thing is that cover the whole plant with clear plastic bag to keep mois air around the plant. Make sure there are some holes punctured on the bag to discourage the mold growth.

Place the plant at warm place even at night. It will make a huge difference!

No problem. I wish you the best with your plant!
I have one phals that's in basically the same condition as what you described about yours.
It is a rare variety I've never seen before and I really liked the flowers, so I'm nursing it at the moment hoping for the best.
