Palace Reef
This is unusual in that there is a seed capsule developing as well as a spike - and that's on one side. On the other side there is another spike, with a bud that will open within a week.

you see the entire capsule is green, including the remaining petals ? I am assuming that the capsule is photosynthesising, in others the petals either fall off, turn brown or dry out; staying the original colour.

Oh how exciting!
Is the seed pod a selfing or did you cross this with something else, if so, WHAT???
I used to have a Palace Reef, but it has gone to orchid heaven. I really loved its bloom, so please make sure to post pics when it blooms!!

This capsule has been developing since 5/1 !!!! I will post photos of the cross-seedlings if that ever happens.
I also love this flower - its frustrating though as the first bud ALWAYS dries up, and true to form the first bud on EACH spike dropped this time around too. I thought that maybe I would be lucky on the extending spike, but nope. Must be hard-wired in the orchid DNA.

Why is this unusual? It's the sign of a well grown plant that is handling the energy requirement of that pod just fine. Pod flowers thicken up and green up as the pod develops. You can cut the petals sepals off to help limit place of contamination before flasking, but I'm not sure if that helps as much as some think. I just leave them, whether they are churning out energy or not.
However, pod looks a bit small for having grown almost to term (~6 months). But maybe your cross/conditions are different. What was the pollen plant?

this is common on most novelty species so, so naturally it is prevelant in their hybrids. most standards dont gevelop green petals and sepals, they just dry up

pod has started to yellow so I am dropping it off at the flask-guy tomorrow. Going to look at all the flasks I have in the baby orchid nursery too, for the first time.
Hoping that there is seed in this one...
The bloom looks better than last year, hope it flattens out as it matures.
