Two of my phals spiking! Yay!
Default Two of my phals spiking! Yay!

Anytime orchids spike, I get so excited!
My phals which typically spike in September or October sort of worried me when I didn't see any signs of spike.

White with red lip phal spiked when I got back from a trip, which was during the hurricane. I had some nice welcome back home along with some blooms on catts as well.
The spike is thicker than it was last year, so I guess that's a good sign.

Then the white phal just had its spike poked out earlier this week!

I won't be seeing their flowers anytime soon, but I'm excited and seeing the spikes grow is a great fun for me also!
This large white phals always produced about 4 flowers, but now that I am in a brighter apartment, I am really looking forward to any change there might be in the number of flowers. I will love this large white phal regardless though!

we have a discussion going on in another thread. Your opinion is useful because I know you buy a lot of orchids. For phals - do you generally notice that many offered for sale are NoIDs or do you think that the majority are named, with tags ?

I do buy a lot, and whether I buy phals at supermarket or flower district, most are NOIDs.
I believe most are named or at least the parents used for specific cross is always known. Some of these might go through registered process and have registered names, but many don't.

Even the ones with tags often lose their tags while being shipped from one place to another. and sometimes whoever grew these to flowering size decides not to include tags to save money.
Mass market basically do not care about plants' names. They are relatively cheap, actually very very cheap for how long the flowers last. so most people buy them for flowers and toss. buy again. there are always tons out there. that's just reality.

The little plastic name tag probably cost little, but when thousands are being sold, that's money wasted to the view of sellers in the industry.

oh, well...
