Major Bud Blast on Taida Salu
Default Major Bud Blast on Taida Salu

I got this plant in its glorious little tree like presentation loaded with flowers about two weeks ago.
I have bought phals that lose a few buds especially in winter and I always thought it was because of temperature and humidity fluctuations.

Well, the weather isn't that bad at all this month.
This newly acquired beauty started to wilt its flowers one by one in just a few days after arriving at my apartment. Then last week, it dropped more than half of its flowers.
Now I'm left with about a dozen flowers that are all sitting toward the end of the spike/branch.
All the spike/branch tips have at least one or two unopened buds and the tips are all green, so I'm hoping they will make some more flowers.

I mainly got this one for its nice flower display, but now it's mostly bare.

sometimes, i've experienced, that the flowers look nice at the store because of the crisp temps. then i bring them home and the old flowers immediately blast like yours. it happens to me because those blooms had already been opened for a while. its easier to transfer one in peek bud so the flowers open into your environment and last longer. or so it seems. plus MY taida salu seems to last a lot less than my others. maybe a month or so... hope your buds make it

It seems like the major bud blast is over now.
All the remaining buds are opening up one by one.
These newer ones are much darker in color with almost no white veining near the center.

Well, one month for phals are pathetic.
All my other phals last somewher between 3 to 6 months.

If that's the case, I'm really using this plant just for the flower show (which is mostly damaged due to bud blast already) not for a resident in my apartment.

I read in the literature that Taida Salu blooms at least twice a year, so that might make up for a short bloom span.

Pretty flowers. Hope it flowers for longer next time. It could be down to change in environment.

This plant is now making more buds.
I see that all the tips (there are about ten, counting all the branching spikes) are making one to three tiny little buds. I guess the plant is finally comfortable in the new home.

Yeah, it's nice to see that this plant is alive and making more buds.
I thought it was going to die with all the leaves getting all limpy.

Now, one other phal bought along with this one is nearly dead after being in flower for a while. have no clue what's causing it, but I guess I got some bad phals this year.
lost one of my favorite spotted phals to rot earlier, and one is almost dead.
Keeps me motivated to keep shopping for better plants! hahaha
