For lights, try Roberts Flower Supply (he has a website). Wayne Roberts tests all the lights and really knows the pros and cons of each type. He is located in northeast Ohio, too, so you could save on shipping. His business is appointment only but he has all the orchid supplies and, yes, orchids. I noticed he is giving a talk on lighting at the Pittsburgh Orchid Festival (The festival is October 20-21). Hope this helps.

@ Rowan - They're "covered" as they have it 'On Sale' and the 20K is barred.. it's a special sale ..
Anyway thanks to all who have posted! I have enjoyed reading this interesting thread

I think you're both right. It's overpriced, and a crapaploid. (as Cody mentioned). A price like this is common for a nice breeding plant, but as a 3n, what's the point? Yeah you could make it the pod parent each time, but it's fertility will be questionable. Even if it's fragrant, the flower itself, while interesting, isn't a 200 buck plant. Maybe a 75 dollar stem prop, but that's pushing it.

Yeah, I don't think I'd spend a penny on a 3n or NoID, as I am focusing on breedable Phals! You woulnd't be able to find anything but a 2n in my collection at the moment unless the plant was a gift from a good friend! I may be getting some 4n in the future, but that won't be for a while yet.

As far as I'm concerned, 'Anaconda' is 2n, so I would pay $500 for a plant like that which I could use to breed! But, regardless of how a plant looks, if I can't breed with it, I would not buy it.

Anaconda is certainly not 2n. It's breedable as a pod parent, but its certainly an anueploid. A lot of anueploid plants can be used as a pod parent. Even some 3n, but it's an issue for sure.

I find it hard to believe that Joy Spring Tina would be highly aneuploid. . . here is the geneology
Joy Spring Tina= Natasha x Hsu Li-Shian
Natasha= gigantea x Samba
Hsu Li-Shian= George Vasquez x amboinensis
Samba= Star of Rio x amboinensis
George Vasquez= Luedde-violacea x violacea
Star of Rio= Bataan x lueddemanniana
Luedde-violacea= lueddemanniana x violacea
Bataan= amabilis x aphrodite
So it is possible that Bataan is either 4n, 3n, or 2n, so I guess JST should be near 2n by now. But knowing that there is chances it isn't evenly 2n, I don't know if I would buy it.

It's not evenly 2n. Now it might be close, but haven't you ever wondered why JST is only used as a pod parent?
I think Ben and I discussed which was the non 2n culprit before, and if I remember right is was Bataan. But looking at it, maybe it was Natasha... I forget, sorry.
