Monster Phal - Baldan's Kaleidoscope
This has got so big that I almost do not know what to do with it. It just keeps on and on. Its got a spike ( see if you can spot it ), and this will be the first time its flowered 2x in one year. It always has 2 spikes, I will be watching for the other to start...
The roots are airborne, I don't repot them. I did at first but it soon grew others. Its about 5 years old.
meant to say I have had it for 5 years. If I take it as growing 2 leaves per year, sometimes 3 - but lets say 2 - it must be about 8 years old...It was registered in 1990. I generally find that the older ( in terms of when registered ) hybrids have more vigour than the newer ones.

It's unusual for phalaenopsis to bloom twice a year. This must be a very special plant and you're obviously taking excellent care of it.

I feel your pain with this one! I also have a 'monster' and have gotten to the point where I don't know what to do with it either. It's a real love/hate thing - they're such a pain when it comes to potting and they take up loads of space, but on the other hand they look so imposing and impressive. I'd love to mount mine and leave it to do its thing but I have no idea where I'd put it!

I was going to suggest mounting it. Nat, you could always mount it, hang it on the wall and get one of those lights you hang over paintings.

Great idea! I was just wishing I had a window in my bathroom - it would love it. But maybe I should just think about how to run a grow light or LED in there (there are never plugs in bathrooms in Ireland and I don't think you're legally allowed to even put one in).

That is sooo weird. How do you dry your hair?

I know! It's truly bizarre. I think they assume that everyone's going to have one foot in the shower/bath with the other foot holding down the lever on your toaster, all the while blow-drying your hair with a hair-dryer that has a damaged cable which is plugged into an extension lead lying in a puddle of water.
Or something like that.

Wowser
well I thought that I would only get 1 spike this year, after 2 earlier this year. Well I just checked and there are 2 more growing - making 3 in total.
First time ever for me, its a great feeling
