Default Phal Sogo Lovely in bloom

Phal Sogo Lovely is a great harlequin phal. The flowers are relatively small for an otherwise standard size phal, but it always has lots of them on branching spikes.

I've let the spike grow un-staked the last few times and quite like the way it naturally hangs.

I'm not entirely sure how much I like the individual flowers as the lip shape almost looks like a jaw, and quite an agressive jaw. Cody (TheBlazingAugust) tells me that's coming from the Phal Golden Peoker ancestry.

Thanks Susie, Tucker and Kim.

Tucker, I was sceptical as the games started, but it went really well, and pretty smoothly overall

Beautiful! I really like unstaked spikes, but they can be so problematic for me!

Nice cascade of flowers Rosie. These harlequins are not really my cup of tea, but this one is very floriferous.

Yep, I looked it up, and one of the parents is Golden Peoker. I spared Facebook from the fullout, geek explanation, but I think it would be appropriate here. Golden Peoker was just another normal, tetraploid novelty, which in this case is actually a combination of novelty hybrids with very long and complex standard hybrids (trust me, I looked it up, and it goes back around 10 generations!) Well, eventuality, after much cloning, a random mutation occured, and a clone with very saturated colours arose. This clone unfortunately did have quite the odd shape, but now with combining Golden Peoker with other tetraploids, there has been a whole new direction of breeding lines to explore!

EDIT: After doing some quick research, I found that the original mutation of Golden Peoker (clonal name 'BL') did not have too bad of shape, but through what I would assume were selfings and sib crosses, a much more saturated, and contorted Golden Peoker appeared.

Just starting to open flowers again this year. Only a short spike though this year.
