Default Phal. Venus; failed first blooming

Well, this really wasn't was I was hoping for (how many "was" can one squeeze into a sentence and get away with?) when the first flower on my Phal. Venus (equestris x lindenii) opened... And more failed flowers are to come as almost all of the buds are deformed.

The second flower might look almost normal, but why the rest has decided to go "freak show" on me, I don't know. Maybe it could be the seaweed extract?

Well, here's the first "monstrosity", eh...enjoy?:

I agree with Sonya! It's a little off but I bet it will be better next time. I really like the white edging around the petals and sepals!

A change in humidity during bud development can affect the growth of the various segments, causing exactly what you are seeing.

Unless you grossly overdose hormones for an extended time (weeks, if not months), you won't see that.

Oh? It can? I didn't know that. That feels like a more reasonable explanation than the seaweed extract. I've fed all my orchids seaweed extract for five months now, and this is the only one getting wonky flowers. Starting with the sixth bud, they all look normal, it's just only the first five that look weird. Hmm... I got myself a humidifier while the buds were developing, maybe the air was too dry before then.
