Default Damaged Flower Spike

Hello I'm a newbie to orchids and it started with a rescue from Walmart. Poor little plant was overwatered so it has been cleared of the mushy bad roots with some roots left. It was put in the fir bark medium and not watered yet, but has a humidty tray and misting under the leaves now for a week. It had one flower spike with two flowers left. Somehow during the repotting (i think) the spike got a crack in in it. I put the cinnamon on the crack to seal it up. I don't have the heart to cut the spike yet! The one node above the crack feels like it may or was going to spout a branch. Should I cut the spike or leave it? Do spikes ever heal on their own? The plant really needs to go in "leaf" growing mode but as I say I don't have the heart to cut it yet. Ugghhh!!!!

How deep is the cut in the spike? If not deep, it might be ok, or you might try taping it (honestly, I think I have read of someone doing that!) Or you could try cutting the spike and putting it in a vase with water. Sometimes orchids that have had spikes broken before blooming will re-spike very soon again - they really do want to bloom.
Good luck!

I cut off a finished spike without realizing that there was a new spike behind it, and I damaged the stem of the new spike. It has had a piece of tape on it for about a week now and is continuing to develope.
