Default Dtps. Taiwan Red Cat 'Red Cat' loving the splashed blooms!

Finally my Phal is blooming! I got this last fall from Crystal Star, who in turn got it from Ching Hua. It was not in bloom so I was hoping for splashed petals and am very pleased with the result This cross is a solid pink and the splash is a genetic mutation. So the cultivar 'Red Cat' is the splashed one, but approximately 10% can revert back to the solid colour form. It is advised to buy them in bloom to ensure you get the splash. But beggars can't be choosers so I bought it out of bloom.

It has a real thick spike that divided like a wish bone with 2 branches and then a 3rd also started growing in the centre of that. Klutz that I am, I was trying to stake it when the first branch bloomed a week ago and it snapped off in my hand but here is the 2nd branch blooming and the 3rd part has started to grow again. I'm really happy with the splash pattern and rich colour!

Thanks orchideya and sweetjblue. Yep, I lucked out to not get the plain pink one as I wanted the splash type!

Excellent! I remember reading awhile ago that it was in spike and you were hoping for the splash petals. Congrats!

Thanks. This seems to be a real slow grower compared to my other Phals. But it is one of those large fleshy type with extra thick leaves and spike and even the roots take longer to grow for some reason. I am hoping that means the blooms will take long to die also
