There is nothing wrong with the stem going yellow. It's finished it's flowering cycle for that flower spike.
Cut the dried spike off and continu to care for it as you have been and you will get an other spike. It will usually take months so, be patient & Good Luck!

I agree with Nenella. It is the natural cycle of the plant for it to bloom then lose its blooms then the spike dries up because it is done flowering for now. It will grow a new spike when it is ready. Cut the old spike off at the base of the plant. Remember plants don't constantly flower all the time. They need to rest and build up energy for the next blooming.

Welcome to OB!

You can cut it now. Cut it about an inch from where it grew from the base of the plant. You can dab a little bit of cinnamon powder on the cut to seal it. You don't have to though. If you do use the cinnamon don't get it on the roots. It will dry them out.

Oh and make sure whatever you cut it with is sterile. I use a bleach solution to sterilize my shears. Others use a torch and heat the blades and some use disposable razor blades. It is to prevent spreading viruses to plant to plant. It is more important if you use your cutting tools on other plants too. If you only have one orchid it won't be a big deal if you don't but keep in mind if you get more orchids always sterilize in between cutting different plants.
