wow, really? that is interesting!
All my phals grow one at a time including this one. You know how they grow one and then by the time that one is almost done growing, a new one pokes out of the center. Fun sight!

The two leavs don't start very close together, the first one is usually half grown.
I'm curious to see what yours does. Since it's not very strong yet, maybe that first leaf will stay smallish.

I love a good recovery story! Well done. I have many phals that have two new leaves growing at the same time. They are always the right size when they stop growing. As for reblooming, I only have one purply / pink one and that was a huge multi branched beast when I got it last year:



The spike was literally three feet tall! This year it has rebloomed easily for me although the spike is nowhere near as impressive or tall -but I love it anyway!

Lovely Phal Susie! Personally I don't expect the first reblooming of a Phal to be as spectacular as when purchased, the plant has to go through a transition period to get used to the suboptimal conditions at home. With good culture, I think you can expect a larger spike next time, as the plant builds up strength.

Very nice plant. It is well worth saving. It gives you great pleasure to save a plant that is in trouble. I am in the process of trying to save one now. It was given to us by a women that had it for some time and really did not know how to care for it. We will see what happens. Again nice going and good luck with your plant.

Susie- The rebloom is still really good by any standard I would say. As you pointed out, it is not as spectacular as the last bloom, but it even branched out and quite q few flowers on the spike!
None of my phal ever live up to the greatness they had at the time of purchase. oh, well...at least they bloom every year.

By the way, I'm posting a picture of my recovering phal with its second new leaf showing.

I can already tell it's going to be large!!!

Thanks for the compliment NYorchidman. I have three phals that are producing leaves inside of leaves that are still emerging. It always happens with my phals. I guess it is a good thing.

It does seem similar to my noid Phal that I have received as a gift last Christmas, with partial blooms then, and currently going into 6th month in bloom. I only see it drop some blooms when the season begins to transition, then it continues with its lovely bloom display. I did same thing removing some of the moss it was growing into this May, since I notice that from the tip the spike seems to be drying out, while the rest of the spike is still fully laden with blooms. And it seemed to work! The drying out stopped! I guess the roots just needs to breathe a little more as it begins to warm up even more. Now that it is getting warmer, I have been running the ceiling fan often too..loves lots of air circulation this one

No, mine had flowers that are much darker and no veins.
You might have meant Susie's phal. They look very similar in deed!
