Default So disappointed!

My Brother Sara Gold lookalike Noid Phal is finally starting to bloom after sulking for 3 years. I've been watching the buds swell for weeks, the anticipation reached its peak when the bud cracked open, and then utter disappointment. It's awful looking! I have nothing against peloric Phals, and even like them, but with only one semi-peloric petal it just looks so darn ugly... Great color, but that doesn't make up for it. I hope the rest of the buds will be normal.

That's unfortunate. It's really maddening when you wait three years and then you get a result like that. Why did it take so long? Do you think it could be a sick plant? Maybe a virus?

I have no idea. Peloria does happen, so it could just be one of those freak occurrences. The streaking on the modified petal made me think virus at first, but the rest of the bloom is perfect, no other streaks. And the plant is a good, vigorous grower.

But I just remembered that I did spray it with insecticide while the blooms were still very small (a few mealy bugs popping up in my collection). Maybe that caused it? I know that imidacloprid can cause bloom deformation, and the product I used is not that, but is in the same chemical family.

Ooh no Camille. I am sorry to hear that -and see it- but you know what they say; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe -hopefully- the next bud will be more aesthetically pleasing to you. I have a few uneven phal blooms on the spike and I get annoyed when they are not properly aligned with the rest of the blooms but as long as they are there I love them all the same

I would go nuts seeing something like that after waiting for three years!!!
then again, let's just hope that one petal got a littl too much dose of the chemical you sprayed.

I'm curious to see how the rest of the buds will open up to be. Please post pictures when the next one or the rest open.

So sorry this has happened. I have a phal ember that blooms just fine but every now and then has a peloric bloom. It's so random.

The next bud looks like it should pop open in 3-4 days, so it's wait and see. Until then, fingers crossed!
