Default Carter and Holmes Phal Hybrids Have Arrived

The newest members of my 'chid collection have arrived, and with my order of 5 plants I received a bonus plant so I have 6 new orchids. However due to my hectic schedule at work and the fact that I spent 2 nights potting these guys up this week I couldn't share before now. So without further ado (Sorry if I write these names out incorrectly I'm still trying to get the hang of this) from left to right in the photo starting at the back they are as follows:

Plantation Yellow Bells

(Jungle Tapestry x San Luca) Giant x Dtps. Newberry Candy Cane 'Mendenhall'

Dtps. Taida Pearl 'Newberry Queen'

Rocky Branch

Dtps. Pat Weeks 'Miami' x Dtps. No Complaints

Dtps. Plum Rose 'Happy Valentine' x Dtps. Bedford Rose Jewel 'Bedford'

Some of these I couldn't find a picture of both parents let alone the hybrid so I have no idea what it they will look like...

Due to some of them trying to escape their pots upon arrival and the fact that they were in green plastic pots I have already re-potted them. Amazing what you can create with plastic solo cups and a soldering iron, for those of you potting on a budget these cups average about $.13 and no shipping is needed. I ended up using a mix of sphag, perlite, chunks of styrofoam, and medium bark pieces. It's a bit on the dry side inside my home so the phals that I already have are thriving in sphag so I have decided to stick with it.

I also wanted to add a little update on the No ID phal I rescued from Lowes a little over a month ago. The first pic is right after I brought it home and cleaned it up the second is how it looks today. The roots are growing great but I am about to loose the last leaf it has so I have already got a set-up ready to go for when that happens.

Nice haul! Lots of happy, healthy Phals. Neat idea for the pots, and they're pretty.

Good luck with the rescue Phal, looks like it still has a long road ahead of it.

Very nice! Congrats on your growing collection!

If you're not already, you should try spraying your rescue phal with seaweed extract. I think you can get the Maxicrop brand, which has been working well for me. I had a couple of disappointments recently with some plants that arrived nearly rootless, but spraying regularly with the seaweed extract diluted in some tepid water seems to be doing wonders. It can't hurt to try anyway!
