A resilient Phal

Hi, I bought this Phal from Home Depot a few months ago. It had a spike and flowered but soon the flowers dropped off and the crown started to turn brown. I applied peroxide and Cinnamon to the crown but it seem like it was doomed. I placed it on my potting bench and kinda forgot about it. After a month without me doing anything it started a Kieki on the old cut flower spike! and new roots have started on the mother plant. So the first orchid I thought I killed, fooled me. That makes my record 33 and 0
(Disclamer: not including the one the ducks destroyed)
Any suggestions on how to care for it now will be greatly appreciated.

this phal will be a winner in its lifetime, haha. itz will to survive is so strong ^^ good luck. i would say grow it gently too, no direct sun. and just grow it as if u had the mother plant since feeding the so-called dead mothering plant will nourish the baby.

I've got some basal babes going, mother plant had some sorta rot aswell, not even 1 leaf left from mom. I just grow it as usual and hope it pulls thru, so far so good.

Once the keiki establishes its own roots, you can sever it from the mother plant. ITM, I would remove the entire plant from its container, cut off any dead or decaying roots, and repot in new pot with fresh medium. With a little luck, you might even get a basal keiki or two.

That's one strong willed plant! Just goes to show that sometimes the best thing we can do is step out of the way and let nature do her magic.

I agree with the above... now that 'mom' is starting new root growth, its a good time to get her into fresh bark and trim any dead roots. That way, she can be undisturbed while her baby grows and develops its own roots.
