Is it normal for Phalaenopsis schilleriana to lack fragrance? Mine does not have any trace of fragrance however my schilleriana has strong sturdy petals. I have seen schilleriana with floppy petals and fragrance. Does anyone have a schilleriana that lacks fragrance?

I've heard of that too. I have read posts on here about Sharry Baby orchids that lacked fragrance when they bloomed. I think anytime you buy a fragrant one theres a chance that you'll get a dud that doesn't have any smell at all. Also, some only smell during certain times of day or only in the sun etc. Have you checked at different times of the day or has it been blooming for awhile and you're sure? Now you will have a good excuse to get another one!

It is actually common to bloom Phal. Schilleriana with no fragrance as I read in online articles. Some plants do have fragrance, but alot also dont have any- they are not considered "duds" , but may just be the other members that contain slight frgrance that is undetectable or completely lack it which happens with some of the plants. I read it is almost as common as 1 in every 3 plants that just don't have any scent. Now I also have a question- has anyone actually had a Phal Schilleriana grow keikis from root tips??? I wonder how if it is possible to initiate keiki's from roots.

I have 2 variants of P. schilleriana. One is from Luzon, fragarnce appears only in the sunny morning, the other one is from KTB, it is very popular for our local phal fans. Its flower is vivider than others, the major character is with long and narrow leaves. This one's scent can last longer, and easy to have basal keikis, but some people said it is hard to stem propagation.
P. schilleriana's scent is very strong to me, I can find the smell when I get up in the morning.(Wake up call?)
I have a P. amabilis from P.N.G., its smell is also very similar to P. schilleriana, but a orchid collector who had been in P.N.G, said the local orchid grower in P.N.G hardly find any P. amabilis with scent.
P. equesteris also has fragrance varients. Have you ever found some?
Species phals with scent is very attractive and mysterous.
