First Spike! Female
Exclamation First Spike!

I know this picture is absolutely terrible, but I just had to show this because I'm so excited! This Phal. Brother Apollo is one of my "Trashie" orchids... that is, it got thrown away at work, and I rescued it. This guy had an awful case of scale and had flowers on it when I obtained it, but I cut off the spikes and worked on making it a happy plant again. That was maybe two months ago, and at first I wasn't sure what to think of it. It's leaf span is about 24 inches, but it lost two of it's eight leaves and I was afraid it didn't like me. Amazingly, it's spiking! My first EVER spiking orchid! I will definitely show photos when it's gets big enough to see clearly and in a couple months if it's still happy with me and makes some flowers!

Great job! Now you really have to wait it out! I have a few phals in spike that are in different phases, and the ones that just start out in the beginning phase of growing a spike drive me nuts because I feel it takes them FOREVER to grow!
I am like you.....haven't produced any spikes yet or buds, but just purchased some in spike.....
So I can only imagine how excited you are!!!
Congrats again!!!
Hope it goes by quick for you!

Hi Reinbo, allow me to join the group and say a big congrats! Its a real joy (well magnify that by 100X) when a disgarded 'chid gets adopted and rewards you with a new root, leaf or spike. kindest regards, mary

Great job! Those new spikes do seem to take forever to get going but once they do things move along quite quickly. Good growing, be sure to show us some pics when it blooms!
